[A New Morning with Mitile] Part 1

Figaro, Rutile, & Lennox: Altogether now! Happy birthday, Mitile!

Akira: Happy birthday, Mitile!

Mitile: Thank you so much!

Showered in everyone’s birthday wishes, Mitile smiled cheek to cheek.

Akira: Thanks for inviting me to this pajama party, Mitile!

Mitile: I should be the one saying thank you! It was pretty sudden, so I was worried I’d be troubling you…

Seeing him look up at me shyly, I was reminded of this morning when Mitile came to talk to me.

Mitile: Uhm, Master Sage! Rutile and the others are throwing a pajama party to celebrate my birthday.

And so…uhm…would you like to join? I want to spend my birthday together with you!

Akira: (I couldn’t help but nod seeing those sparkling eyes looking me straight in the eye.)

Rutile: Alrighty now…ta-daaa! It’s cake time!

The cake that Rutile brought out was decorated with colourful fruits, sitting atop a plate with Rutile-esque designs.

Lennox: The drawing on this plate…there’s something like round stubs I’m guessing are feet.

Figaro: Hm, then these black lines must be whiskers?

Mitile: Whiskers...round stubs…ah, I got it! It’s a Muumuu isn’t it?

Rutile: Correct! For Mitile, today’s superstar who guessed it right~...I give you the biggest slice of cake!

Mitile: Aw yeah!

We each received our slice of cake, and after we finished eating, Rutile took out some dice.

Akira: What’s with the dice?

Rutile: They’re “Mitile Dice” I made specially for today.

Akira: Mitile Dice?

Lennox: There’s topics written on each face of the die, and the game is to talk about whatever topic you land on when you roll. The topics written are related to Mitile.

Mitile: T-Topics related to me? I wonder what’s there…

Rutile: Roll the dice to find out!

Figaro: You can hear what kinda topics come out then.

We did rock-paper-scissors, and Lennox who won got to roll first.

Rutile: Mr. Leno, put some elbow grease into your roll!

Lennox: Will do.

Figaro: Now, what’s the topic… “A moment you were surprised by Mitile”.

Lennox: When I was surprised…

There’s a lot of moments, but…it’d have to be when Mitile was still little.

It had been months since I’d last seen him, and he’d shot up in height. I was pretty shocked.

I even had to ask, “Are you Mitile?” straight to his face.

Mitile: Hehe, I still remember that surprised face of yours, Mr. Leno!

But I still have a lot of growing to do, so you might have a lot more surprises waiting for you!

Figaro: Ahaha, that’s right. Maybe you’ll even grow taller than Leno someday?

[A New Morning with Mitile] Part 2

Rutile: Hehe, if you grew taller than Mr. Leno, I’d be able to find you no matter where you’d go, Mitile.

Akira: And you’d be the coolest guy around with the longest legs.

Mitile: Ehehe. I guess I should increase the amount of milk I drink…

Lennox: Yeah, it's good to grow at your own pace. I’ll be looking forward to that day.

Mitile: Mr. Leno…thanks!

Figaro: Alright, my turn.

“A happy moment with Mitile”...Hrm, it’s hard, since there’s a lot.

Rutile: You’ve been in Mitile’s life since he was born after all.

Lennox: Seeing as how you’ve watched over him all these years, I understand why you'd struggle.

Figaro: …Ah, I know. It’s gotta be when Mitile called me…

“Duck-tah Figyaro” with his babyspeak for the first time. I was really really happy, it warmed my heart.

Akira: (Cute…)

Mitile: Ugh! That story again!?

Figaro: Sorry, sorry.

But it really did make my day even with your baby blabber to know that you recognized me as “Dr. Figaro” and called me by my name.

It’s a story I could repeat forever.

Mitile: Dr. Figaro…

I-If you really like it that much…but, it’s still embarrassing, so no more of that story for today!

Figaro: Ahaha, what a shame. Well then, next up is…

Rutile: Me! It’s my turn!

“A precious memory with Mitile”...this one’s a challenge.

Akira: Huh, really?

Rutile: Of course! There’s mornings where I’d see a half-awake Mitile and think “I love you today too!”

Or afternoons where we got into fights over trivial things while imitating Mithra or Mother.

And nights we’d sleep in each other’s arms feeling sad and lonely after Father left this world.

Even this moment right now is a precious memory of another day spent with Mitile.

I’d use up a whole day talking about it all, so choosing just one is incredibly tough.

Mitile: Brother…

Me too, the time I spend with you is also a precious memory for me…

and the greatest treasure ever!

Rutile: Mitile…

It’s not the first time I’ve said this, but thank you for growing up with so much cheer.

Your big brother is so happy and has so much fun being with you everyday.

Rutile gently cuddled Mitile.

As if responding to his words and warmth, Mitile rubbed his hand on his brother’s back.

Lennox, Figaro, and I watched over the two with a warm gaze.

Mitile: Grmm…Rutile. It’s getting embarrassing, so you can let go now…

Rutile: Heehee, okiedokie.

Now then, it’s Mitile’s turn!

Mitile: Wait, isn’t it weird for me to answer a moment about myself…!?

Figaro, Lennox, & Akira: Ahahaha.

The voices of wizards filled the room. The celebratory night of Mitile’s birthday continued on in high spirits.

[A New Morning with Mitile] Part 3

Akira: It’s morning…mm?

Blinking my eyes open to a different room than usual, I look around at my surroundings and remember last night.

Akira: (Right, after the pajama party Mitile wanted to sleep together with everyone because it’d been awhile so…)

Asleep around me were the Southern wizards, with me and Mitile in the middle like the filling in a sandwich.

Mitile: Mrrmm…I can’t eat any more cake…

Akira: (Hahaha, what cute sleeptalk.)

As I quietly watched Mitile, he rustled and was about to turn in his sleep. He reached out his hands as if to cling to someone.

Mitile: Big brother…

He gave me a squeeze like I were his favourite stuffy.

Mitile:

Happily and wholesomely, Mitile continued sleeping.

Akira: (He’s not quite awake yet.)

Suddenly, the morning sunlight shone through the curtains and lit up Mitile’s face.

Mitile: Mm~...

His eyes slightly opened, and I met with sleepy eyes the colour of a bush warbler.

Mitile: …! M-Master Sage!?

Was I clinging to you in my sleep!?

Akira: Ahaha, it’s okay. There’s no need to panic–

Rutile: Hm~...

Mitile & Akira: Ah.

Shhhh–

Akira: Let’s whisper so we don’t wake Rutile.

Mitile: Yeah.

We huddle in close together, as if to speak secrets to each other.

Akira: Thanks for yesterday, Mitile. It was a lot of fun to hear stories about when you were little.

And, even if you do get into fights sometimes, I realized again how much you love the Southern wizards.

Mitile: Master Sage…

…You’re right. I do have a lot of times where I whine or wonder why they won’t understand me.

But I really do love everyone in South, those moments included!

If the sun could smile, it would look like his. It filled me with happiness to see him smile to his fullest.

Mitile: I can’t easily say this ‘cuz I get too embarrassed.

Though I honestly do think of Dr. Figaro, Mr. Leno, and of course my brother as family.

So that’s why I’m going to keep on making memories with them!

Akira: That’s the spirit. I know you’ll create tons of fun memories together with the Southern wizards.

Mitile: Thank you. But I want to make those memories with you too, Master Sage.

If you don’t mind, that is…

Akira: Mitile…of course I don’t!

Let’s continue to make precious memories together.

Mitile: …Yeah!

I could see my reflection in those vibrant eyes that reminded me of the bush warblers back home.

Holding the bouquet of words close to my chest, I returned to him a smile.

All while feeling the kind gaze of those warmly watching over us.

[Why I Don’t Use Magic]

Akira: Morning, Mitile. I see you’re holding the cutlery, are you setting up for breakfast?

Mitile: Yep. Mister Nero seemed busy with the cooking, so he tasked me to set up the table when I asked if I could help with anything.

Akira: That’s why. Want me to lend a hand?

Mitile: Thanks, but I’m almost done, so it’s okay!

Akira: Mitile, you’re not using any magic when setting up.

Mitile: Yeah. I know that if I did, I could easily carry the cutlery and line them up, but…

It’s a tendency from back when I was in the Town of Clouds to want to do things by hand.

When me, my brother, and my father lived together, we didn’t use magic to set up breakfast…!

Akira: I get it. You don’t use magic for that reason.

Mitile: The truth is…I actually dropped and broke a plate once when I was new to setting up the table.

Instead of getting mad at me though Father was worried and asked me if I was hurt…

And then he thanked me for helping out!

Akira: So that happened…what a kind father he was.

Mitile: Yeah! That’s why when I don’t use magic for this, I remember my father from back then…

Akira: (Mitile looks happy.)

Mitile: Ah! Sorry for suddenly talking about my childhood like that.

Akira: No, it’s totally fine!

Actually, I should thank you for letting me hear such a precious memory first thing in the morning!

Mitile: Master Sage…then I’ll thank you too, for listening to my story!

CARD STORY

For Those Behind Me Part 1

Mitile:
Woah, there's a lot of swords in here...this one's all sharp and pointy, and this one's curved...
I never knew there were so many different kinds of swords! Alright, let's try lifting...one...achk, that's heavy!
Murr: Yoohoo!
Mitile: M-Mister Murr! How long were you behind me for?
Murr: How long do you think?
Mitile: Uh, uhm, well...since the moment I entered the room?
Murr: Ding ding ding! For your prize I shall now tell you a cool story!
That sword you're holding used to belong to a knight-in-training a long while back! I looked into its memory, so that's a matter-of-fact!
Mitile: You looked into its memory...? Right, you're good at that kind of magic, Mister Murr!
I bet it's real fun to peer into the memories of objects! I wish I could do that. So, what kind of memories does this sword have?

For Those Behind Me Part 2

Murr:
How about I start from its earliest memory!
This sword was originally a gift to a son from his parents, whose dreams of becoming a knight were hammered along into this blade.
Rain or shine he would swing this sword, polish it clean, and slept with it at his bedside.
But one day, he decided he would leave this sword behind for the knights-in-training here.
Mitile: Huh? Why would he leave such a treasured sword behind?
Don't tell me...was the training was too tough? Or did he lose too many duels that he gave up on becoming a knight...?
Murr: Bzzzt! He passed the test with flying colours and became a full fledged knight!
Mitile: Really!
Murr: He wanted to leave his precious friend for the future knights here, and that's the tale behind this sword.
Mitile: Awesome! His efforts paid off and his dreams came true!
Murr: Happy?
Mitile: I sure am! And, I think it's super cool of him to leave his sword behind for those with the same dreams as him.
I bet this sword will continue connecting those knights-to-be with their dreams...
I hope I can leave something behind for someone like that knight and this sword one day.
Murr: Your eyes are sparkling, Mitile! Wanna hear more stories about this sword and all the wills it succeeded and dreams it realized?
Mitile: Wowie, is that okay? Please, tell me more!
I wonder what stories there are...I can't wait to hear them!

CARD EPISODE

With Practice Does Power Grow

Akira: Mitile, you got to handle swords at the training grounds, right? What was it like, carrying a sword used for real battle?
Mitile: It was much more heavier than I imagined. It took all my strength just to lift one...
so that's the weight the knights swing and carry into battle.
...But, when I think about how they go through all that training to participate in the exam, just to compete against each other...
Akira: It makes you feel a little sad, doesn't it. I kinda wish everybody could win...
Mitile: I agree. Even though I know that becoming a knight is easier said than done...
Akira: Well, whether they win or not, the experience one gets from participating in the exams is probably the most important part to them.
They could use that experience from doing it once to train and try again, and who knows, maybe they'll win that round!
Mitile: You're right about that. ...Actually, I heard about someone who was like that before.
Though they lost the first exam they ever took, they did a bunch of training afterwards and became a knight in the end!
Akira: Oooh, so there really was someone like that! Who'd you hear this from? Somebody from the Sword Art Exams?
Mitile: Nope, it was Mister Murr who told me. A sword held that kind of memory within it.
He told me a lot of other cool stories to...if you don't mind, Master Sage, let me tell you them!

CARD STORY

A Whitey White Day Part 1

One day, Snow and White entered my room with an inquiring look on their faces.

Akira: Snow, White, you two said you had business with me...so what's up?
Snow: Sage. I recall there being a special holiday in your world called "White Day", correct?
Akira: ...? Yeah. It's the day where we return our thanks to others for Valentine's Day.
Snow: Why is it that there is a White Day, but no Snow Day? Don't you think it rather unfair that only he gets to have a special day?
Akira: Huh?!
White: We twins love matching things, so we decided to create a Snow Day ourselves!
Snow: I am Snow Day.
White: And I am White Day.
Snow & White: We each shall give you a time that you've never spent before!

Akira: (White Day has finally arrived...)
(I don't think it'll be the same old "Give and Return" White Day I know so well, so I'm kinda curious...)
White: My Sage, have I kept you waiting?
Akira: Hey White, so today you're in your adult form?
White: If I'm in a handsome form such as this, you're sure to have the most wonderful White Day ever, no?
Furthermore, I plan to give you my usual cute form for today.
Akira: What do you mean...
White: Noscomnia.
Akira: Hm? Why is my field of vision...smaller?
White: Ohohoho. Have a look, Sage, into this mirror.
Akira: HUH?! I'M White?!
White: I've cast a spell on you so that your appearance is that of my child form.
You are me, and today you will be spending White Day with me in that form.
In other words, it's a Double White Day! How about it? Are you surprised?
Akira: S-Sure...it's definitely a weird sensation to see White in front of me while being White...
White: Ah, lovely timing! It looks as though Mitile and Figaro are fast approaching.
Why not seize the moment and pretend to be me as best as you can?
I'll be watching over you, don't worry! Let's gooooo, Sagey!!
Akira: D-Don't just suddenly--aaand he's gone...!!!
Mitile: Ah, hello Lord White!
Akira: Oh...uhmm...
Figaro: Mm?
Akira: (Figaro, have you figured out that it's actually me...?! Please, throw me a lifeline here...!)

A Whitey White Day Part 2

Figaro: Greetings, Lord White.
Akira: Wha--
(So even Figaro hasn't noticed it's me? Wait, his face looks like he's enjoying this...)
(Whatever, I don't know if I can pull this off well, but let's try!)
O...Hohoho. Mitile, Figaro, a lovely day to you~
Mitile & Figaro: ...
Akira: (Okay, even I can tell that was bad...this is so embarrassing...)
Mitile: Uhm, Lord White...are you alright? Your face is red, are you unwell?
Akira: No, not at all...ah.
(Mitile's crouching a bit to match his height to White's...this is new.)
White: Being pampered by the young wizards in that form is such a joyous feeling.
Mitile: Whaaat, there's two Lord Whites!
Akira: Sorry to trick you like that, Mitile! It's actually...

Figaro: I see, so that's why. I had figured the Master Sage was being pulled into some odd situation and decided to play along.
Mitile: Geez Dr. Figaro, if you knew, you should've said so!
Akira: Well, I did get to experience talking to Mitile in a whole new way so I think it's all good...
White: Right? Today you shall experience the world the way I usually see it.
Anyways, since it's a special Double White Day, we ought to go outside!
Mitile: Master Sage, have lots of fun!
Akira: Thank you, Mitile. I'm kinda anxious to go outside like this, but I gotta make the best of it!
Figaro: Lord White, please remember to not go overboard with our Master Sage.
White: I won't. Now, Sage, take a hold of my hand so as to not separate from me.

A bit antsy due to being in someone else's form, I watch the many love struck ladies send their gazes over to us as White escorts me around the marketplace in his adult form.

Akira: Of course White's popular...
White: You're White too, remember? It's not only me who is attracting attention.
Townsperson: Look at the child next to that man! He's as cute as a doll!
Stall Owner: Hey there kiddo, are ya helping your big brother with shopping? Whatta good boy! If you'd like, have a sample of some of our candies!
Akira: Oh, t-thank you very much!
White: Ohohoho. I believe you're more popular than I.
Akira: It's amazing how much attention I get just from walking...
(So this is White's world...it isn't so bad!)

A Whitey White Day Part 3

White: Sage, are you enjoying Double White Day?
Akira: I am. It's a nice feeling to be complimented by others all around.
I wouldn't ever experience this in my normal form, so you're pretty amazing, White!
White: ...
Noscomnia.
Akira: Woah! Oh, I'm back to normal.
White: Though it'd be amusing to continue our Double White Day, the idea of not seeing you for an entire day saddens me so...
Would you continue today in your original form?
Akira: White...
Thank you. It was loads of fun being you, White, but hearing you say that makes me happy.

Now in my original form, I went about the marketplace with White, spotting a stall owner waving their hand to us.

Owner: If it isn't the Master Sage! I've got something to hand to ya! I think you'll like this one.
Akira: Woah, check out this pen...! Wait, why me?
Owner: Why I heard from that Mister beside you that today's a day where we give our thanks to the Sage!
Akira: R-Really now?
White: I think the design of this pen suits your tastes. Great job, sir.
Owner: The Master Sage here is a regular customer at my stall, always buying writing goods. Of course I'd remember their tastes, it's my pride as a merchant!
Akira: ...Thank you so much! I'll use it well.

As I bow politely and look over beside me, I see White smiling as he gently pulls my hand.

White: We've still got many stalls to visit, Sage. Next is this one.

White approaches stall after stall, each and every one of them stores that I had taken a liking to ever since I was brought to this world.
When he did, just like the stall owner from before, they'd give me words of gratitude along with a gift to hand me.

Akira: Uhm, White...what is all this...
White: My plan for today went successfully.
Just as I experience things the only way I can, you too have your own ways of experiencing things.
Sage, what I wished for you to see is that the true bonds you have weaved upon entering this world is not just to us wizards,
but also to the people throughout this land.
Akira: White...thank you so much. I never thought I would have a White Day as splendid as this.
It's thanks to you that I feel like I can love myself and the townspeople more.
White: If that's the case, then this special White Day I planned for you is a great success!
Now that you know how much you're loved, I'll establish a Sage Day where I'll transform into you and spend the day as Sageykins!
Akira: Whaaat! Just the idea of there being two me's sounds mortifying!
But...if you say so, maybe a day like that wouldn't be so bad...

CARD EPISODE

An Interesting Expression

Akira: White, thanks for the wonderful White Day we had earlier.
White: Ohohoho, I am happy to hear that.
Akira: It was a fresh experience being able to transform into someone else and walk about town!
Say, White. If you were to become someone else for an entire day who would you choose?
White: Hmmm, Oz and the other Northerners surely have grudges against them from many others, so I would choose someone with the most peaceful life.
It would be fun to become one of the younger wizards...but the one I want to become is you, O Sage.
Akira: Me? I'm a bit embarrassed at being your number one choice, but thanks...
Except I get dragged in to a lot of trouble, so I can't say for sure that it's a peaceful life...
White: Even so, certainly there are sides to the other wizards they show you that they wouldn't show me.
If I could observe that, it'd be most entertaining!
Akira: Huh, I bet if the other wizards heard that they'd object to it right away...
White: Ohohoho! Until the time comes, I must practice my Master Sage impression immediately!

CARD STORY

A Man and a Bird of the Same Feather Part 1

A silverworks that deals in silver eggs that hatches into a silver craft of what the wizard who raised it desires most from the bottom of their heart. It was an evening after dinner where we were staying at that certain silverworks,
that Shino and I were taking a visit to the chickens who laid these masterpieces.

Shino: Hey, someone's already here.
Bradley: Well if it isn't the Sage and the Eastern Brat.
Akira: You came to take a look at the chickens too?
Bradley: As if I'd ever do somethin' as rosy-cheeked as that! Those shitty gramps said they'd lessen my sentence if I watched over this stupid big egg.
So far not even a crack of anything...I was so bored to death these couple hours, until some entertainment finally started.
Shino & Akira: Entertainment?

As we stare at him heads tilted, Bradley smirks and nods towards what he was looking at.

Red Comb Chicken: Bok bok!
Sharp Beak Chicken: Cluck!
Akira: Oh no, they're fighting!
Bradley: There, see? Our entertainment.
Akira: This isn't the time to sit back and watch, these chickens could hurt themselves, we need to stop...
Shino: It's just natural for them. Sometimes to live, you gotta fight.
Akira: Shino...
Bradley: Heh, aren't you a smart little shit.
Shino: Hmph. Don't treat me like a kid.
Akira: (To live... when he puts it like that, I guess it was just my ego speaking when I didn't want them to fight and be hurt...)
Red Comb Chicken: Bok bok!
Bradley: Oh, that one's got guts.
Sharp Beak Chicken: Cluck cluck, cluck!
Shino: That's right, always return what you're given.

As the fight accelerates, the chicken Shino was cheering for was hit right in the beak by the chicken Bradley was cheering on.

Red Comb Chicken: Bok bok!
Akira: (If this continues one of them is bound to get hurt...)
Bradley: Sage, you look like ya can't handle watching them any longer.
Akira: I...
Shino: ...

Seeing the chickens get messier and messier, I grip my fist. It was then...

Shino: Okay, that's enough.
Akira: ...!

Swiftly, Shino had cut in between the chickens.

Sharp Beak Chicken: Cluck! Cluck!
Shino: Chill out, stop pecking me.
Akira: Shino, thank you for breaking their fight! I'll go fetch something like a towel to calm it--
Shino: No need to. It's just a bit agitated that we stopped their fight. You should go check on the chicken over there.

A Man and a Bird of the Same Feather Part 2

Leaving the still rampaging chicken to Shino, I went over to the other chicken. As wobbly as it was, it manages to stand up fiercely.

Akira: C-Come on now, let's relax...

Saying those words, I try to take the chicken in my arms until Bradley comes swooping in, crouching before it.

Bradley: You still have fight left in ya.
Akira: Bradley...
I'm sorry. Even though fighting is just a natural part of life for them, and it's how they can survive...
I really...
Bradley: Adno Potensum.
Akira: Ah...

Bradley's magic heals the battered chicken up, returning it to its unruffled state.

Akira: You healed it! Thanks!
Bradley: There's nothing more humiliating than saving lives outta pity...so much I'd rather die from the shame...
Akira: ...
Bradley: ...but I know that there're others like you who think differently.

He lifts his head up as if he was thinking about someone, and looks far into the sky.

Bradley: What can I say? I decided to go along with your way this time.
'Sides, if I left it all roughed up those shitty gramps would be sure to nag me for it.
Akira: ...Thank you again, Bradley.
Shino: You done?
Akira: Ah, Shino. Your chicken has also calmed down it seems.
Bradley: Haah, bored again...

Sluggish, Bradley loafs around. As he walks, the chicken who he healed follows after him with a chirp in its steps.

Shino: It likes him.
Akira: It likes him indeed...hehe, how cute.
Bradley: You're kiddin' me...a Northern wizard with a chicken following them around has got to be the lamest thing ever...

Looking down at the chicken by his feet, Bradley crouches once again.

Bradley: If you wanna return the favour, lay a silver egg for me, will ya?

He fistbumps the chicken with the same cheer and familiarity friends have for each other.

A Man and a Bird of the Same Feather Part 3

Days later, when we safely settled our mission at the House of Silver Eggs, we all received silver eggs as thanks from the owner.

Akira: I'm glad we got some silver eggs in the end.
Bradley: They put the Great Bradley on guard duty of all things. The reward better be this good.
Shino: You didn't do a great job of guarding though.
Bradley: What, you brat? You jelly that your egg is smaller than mine?
Shino: I'm not. Mine's more shinier anyway.
Bradley: Polish it enough and anything'll be shiny. My egg's specially ordered.
Shino: Specially ordered?
Bradley: I put in quite the effort on guard duty while you weren't looking.
Shino: No clue what you're going on about, but I'm gonna have Nero compliment my egg.
Bradley: Hahaha, he's still a kid alright.
Akira: So Bradley, by specially ordered do you mean...?
Bradley: Yep. It's that chicken's egg.
I told the Owner to gimme the silver egg that the chicken with the reddest comb lays.
Akira: So that's how! That chicken got to properly return the favour to you.
Bradley: It was saved by none other than me, of course a reward is in order.

Somewhere within that grin of Bradley's was joy.

Akira: I look forward to seeing what kind of silver craft comes from your egg!
Bradley: Sage, whaddaya think is gonna hatch from this egg?
Akira: I wonder...maybe something like a ring, because you often wear rings?
Or maybe some cutlery to use when you're eating good food...
Bradley: Hey, this is my egg you're talkin' about. Nothing corny's gonna hatch from here.
Could always be a silver monster, y'know. One where not even a cage or the Magic Manor could handle.
Akira: Huuuh?! That's kinda terrifying...
Bradley: If it ever comes to that I'll deal with it, it's mine after all.
???:  Bok bok!

A familiar call could be heard from farther away, and we looked at each other.

Akira: That was...
Bradley: For sure. Maybe they're holding Round 2 of their fight.
Akira: What!? Even though its wounds were healed...
Bradley: That chicken's got more backbone than I took it for. I'm gonna watch a match before we head home.
Akira: Ah, wait! I'm coming too!

As I scramble after him, Bradley turns his head to look at me, appearing to be in a good mood.

Bradley: Don't you break the fight now, "Master" Sage.

CARD EPISODE

The Possibilities of Chickens

Akira: Bradley, great work on the mission the other day.
Bradley: Aah, the House of Silver Eggs request?
Akira: Yes, it was all thanks to everyone's efforts that we safely completed it.
Also, it was the first time I've ever seen a chicken lay a silver egg, I was so surprised! Way different from the chickens I know...
Bradley: Lookie here.
Akira: Oh, the egg! Everytime I see them I can't help but admire its design.
Bradley: Well, it is from a mystical creature. I've always wanted one of those chickens for myself too, shoulda nabbed one.
Akira: N-Nab...? I guess I get where you're coming from. Chickens are fluffy and adorable!
Bradley: Nah, I want one 'cuz they're yummy.
Akira: Ahem.
(That was your idea...!?)
Bradley: It's a waste to turn it into fried chicken though. Those chickens can lay silver eggs AND normal eggs.
As long as you look after it, ya get Grade A silver crafts, and to top it off, an egg to eat every morning. A fry-'em-until-the whites-are-crispy kinda egg.
Akira: Haha, when you think about it like that, it is a wonder chicken.
Bradley: ...
Akira: Bradley?
Bradley: ...Now I'm hungry. I'm heading to the kitchen, there's probably somethin' for me to eat there.
If there ain't, there's plenty ways to fix that.
Akira: Ah, he went there silver egg in hand...
I hope he's not planning on eating it...

The Perfect Laundry
Day Part 1

Rutile: Aaand put this here...
Mitile: Isn't the weather just perfect today, Rutile! Even the wind feels nice!
Rutile: Right you are, Mitile! With this weather our bedding will fluff up real soft!
Mitile: Hm? Hey, those clouds...
Rutile: What's up?
Mitile: Those clouds up ahead, the big and small one, don't they remind you of anything?
Rutile: A lovely parent and child? Though, I feel like I've seen something like this before...hmm, just what was it...
Mitile: Hehe, I know! Mr. Leno and his sheep!
Rutile: Ooh, I see it now! They're certainly alike.
Mitile: Mmhmm! It's the fluffiness!
Rutile: Your imagination is so bright, Mitile.
Alright, it's my turn to spot something...
Mitile: I'm sure you'll pinpoint something great, brother! But I won't lose!
Rutile: Hmmm, let's see here...Ah, that cloud! It looks like Mithra!
Mitile: Mr. Mithra? Which one...uhm, I can't find it.
Rutile: Look, that one right over there. It's all curly and billowy, like Mithra's hair!
Mithra: Like what, now?

The Perfect Laundry Day Part 1

Mitile: It's Mr. Mithra!
Mithra: Just what are you two doing?
Rutile: Hanging our bedding out to bask in the sun!
Mithra: Bedding?
Mitile: You know, your sheets and such. Would you like us to do yours too?
Mitha: Mine? Why?
Mitile: Because when you leave your bedding out to dry in the sun like this, it becomes suuuper fluffy and you can sleep soundly!
Mithra: ...Sleep soundly, you say?
Mitile: Yes, from night 'til morning!
Mithra: Very well, I leave it in your hands.
As you know, I cannot sleep well, so any bit will help.
Mitile: That decides it! Let's go grab Mr. Mithra's sheets too, Rutile.
Rutile: On it! We'll make sure your bedding becomes as fluffy as a sheep, Mithra!

Rutile: Let's find the best sunny spot to hang his sheets in.
Mitile: How about here? The sunlight is very warm.
Rutile: No no, that won't do. Over here has more light.
Mitile: I don't think so, this is warmer.
Rutile: But there's a tree nearby, so when the sun moves it'll be in the shade. This spot here is open and perfect for the bedding.
Mithra: Does it really matter? Hurry, all this bedding is heavy.
Mitile: Gosh, brother, you just hate to lose!
Rutile: I don't want to hear that from you!
Mitile: Well, I...
Mithra: Haaugh...those brothers are so alike...

CARD EPISODE

The South’s Heart of Gossip

Akira: Hey Mitile, I heard in the South that you're a good kid who goes around helping others a lot.
Mitile: Thank you! It's because I like to help out.
Akira: What sort of stuff would you get asked to do?
Mitile: Hmm, well I would get asked to fetch water from the well, watch over the stove fire, repair the house, look after the farm...
Akira: That's quite the variety!
Mitile: It is. My brother would still be at work by the time I came home, so I learned to do a lot of house chores.
But, since we're both wizards, we could get things done in a jiffy unlike our neighbours.
If we weren't wizards, we probably would've had it tough.
Akira: How did other people in the South live?
Mitile: In the South, most jobs are manual labour or transportation of goods, so the ones who went outside to work were mostly men.
The ones who worked inside were usually women, but sometimes they'd switch, or help each other out.
The neighbourhood women would always gather and sing, do laundry, sew, and cook together. It seemed like a lot of fun.
Akira: It does, everyone gets along so well.
Mitile: They sure do! That's why instead of the bookstores or the Town Hall, it's the group of women where news travels fast! Households without a woman were always late on the gossip.

CARD STORY

Shinier Than A Scale Part 1

Mitile: Wow, Mr. Leno, that’s awesome! Two fish in one bite! Doesn’t that make it over 20 fish you’ve caught by now?
Lennox: I’m just lucky.
Mitile: You’re so good at fishing. I still haven’t even caught one yet…
Lennox: The spot you’re fishing in might be the problem. Let’s trade places.
Mitile: Is that okay? Thanks!

Mitile: Woah! This time Mr. Leno’s got three in one bite…! Aaand my rod still hasn’t moved…
Hm?
Waaugh! W-What is this? A fish?!
What force...! This has got to be a big one!
Alright, I'm definitely reeling you in!
Lennox: Mitile, are you alright?
Mitile: I, I am...! Uugh, I'm being pulled in...!
Ahh!
Lennox: No, Mitile!
Mitile: *gurgle gurgle gurgle*
Lennox: I'm coming!

Shinier Than A Scale Part 2

Lennox:
Steady now.
Mitile: *coughs* ...Ugh...thank you...
Lennox: Gave me a near heart attack when you fell in the river. Why did you risk yourself like that?
Mitile: I wanted to try and reel it in myself...I'm so sorry for worrying you.
Uuugh, even though it was for sure a big one, I let it get away…
Lennox: ... Mitile, there's something in your hand. It's sparkling.
Mitile: Huh? Oh, it's a rock. Where'd I even...?
Lennox: You probably grabbed it when you fell in the river.
Mitile: Well I was flailing my arms about trying to reel in that fish.
Lennox: It's pretty.
Mitile: Ah, you're right! Cool...but it doesn't make up for that lost fish...
Lennox: Hey, we can catch a fish anytime. This rock here looks like a real rarity.
Mitile: Yeah, it does! Hey, I don't think anyone's ever fished up such a pretty rock before!
Lennox: Amazing, so you're the first. You'll surely catch a fish now.
Mitile: Hehe, keep complimenting me like that and I'll turn red! Ah-Achoo!
Lennox: And you'll also catch a cold if you stay wet like that. Come, let's go home and dry up.
Mitile: Yessir!

Figaro: Ooh, you've caught a tasty looking bunch, Lennox. What about you, Mitile?
Mitile: I caught this lovely rock!
Figaro: Aah, what a lovely ro--Wait, a rock?
Lennox: Beautiful, isn't it? I bet you won't find another like this.
Mitile: Hehehe! I hope you'll take me fishing again, Mr. Leno!
Lennox: Of course. And I hope you'll find another pretty rock next time too.
Mitile: I'll do my best!
Figaro: Fishing for stones instead of fishes? I don't really get it, but they're having fun, so whatever.

CARD EPISODE

What Was Fished Up...

Akira
: You once mentioned that you fish, Leno.
Lennox: Yes, I did.
Akira: So, are you a pro?
Lennox: I wouldn't know if I am, but... as long as you know the ropes, anyone can fish.
Akira: Oh, really? Think I can learn?
Lennox: Fishing itself should be no problem to learn, but after that it depends on you. How patient you are, for example.
Akira: That makes sense. You do seem to have a lot of patience.
Lennox: With fishing, the fisher's personality shows. It's quite interesting--Rutile tends to give up quickly and Mitile is very patient.
There's also many other factors that impact your fishing, such as the season, weather, place, and even the quality of your rod, so I think it's best to just have fun with it.
Akira: Then I'll do just that! Say, out of all the things you fished up, what was the most surprising?
Lennox: A dead body.
Akira: A what?!
Lennox: It was mostly bones. Still, reeling that in was a huge surprise. I think the person may have fell from the cliffs upriver.
There was no longer a soul, and nothing identifiable to who they may have been, so I buried them there and went home.
Akira: That was frightening to hear...
Lennox: Oh, my apologies... I did not mean to scare you.
Akira: I-It's alright
Lennox: Uhm...
Would you like to pet my sheep?
Akira: I will...
