【Smooth-talking Barrett】Bradley SSR
CARD STORY
A Man and a Bird of the Same Feather Part 1
A silverworks that deals in silver eggs that hatches into a silver craft of what the wizard who raised it desires most from the bottom of their heart. It was an evening after dinner where we were staying at that certain silverworks,
that Shino and I were taking a visit to the chickens who laid these masterpieces.
Shino: Hey, someone's already here.
Bradley: Well if it isn't the Sage and the Eastern Brat.
Akira: You came to take a look at the chickens too?
Bradley: As if I'd ever do somethin' as rosy-cheeked as that! Those shitty gramps said they'd lessen my sentence if I watched over this stupid big egg.
So far not even a crack of anything...I was so bored to death these couple hours, until some entertainment finally started.
Shino & Akira: Entertainment?
As we stare at him heads tilted, Bradley smirks and nods towards what he was looking at.
Red Comb Chicken: Bok bok!
Sharp Beak Chicken: Cluck!
Akira: Oh no, they're fighting!
Bradley: There, see? Our entertainment.
Akira: This isn't the time to sit back and watch, these chickens could hurt themselves, we need to stop...
Shino: It's just natural for them. Sometimes to live, you gotta fight.
Akira: Shino...
Bradley: Heh, aren't you a smart little shit.
Shino: Hmph. Don't treat me like a kid.
Akira: (To live... when he puts it like that, I guess it was just my ego speaking when I didn't want them to fight and be hurt...)
Red Comb Chicken: Bok bok!
Bradley: Oh, that one's got guts.
Sharp Beak Chicken: Cluck cluck, cluck!
Shino: That's right, always return what you're given.
As the fight accelerates, the chicken Shino was cheering for was hit right in the beak by the chicken Bradley was cheering on.
Red Comb Chicken: Bok bok!
Akira: (If this continues one of them is bound to get hurt...)
Bradley: Sage, you look like ya can't handle watching them any longer.
Akira: I...
Shino: ...
Seeing the chickens get messier and messier, I grip my fist. It was then...
Shino: Okay, that's enough.
Akira: ...!
Swiftly, Shino had cut in between the chickens.
Sharp Beak Chicken: Cluck! Cluck!
Shino: Chill out, stop pecking me.
Akira: Shino, thank you for breaking their fight! I'll go fetch something like a towel to calm it--
Shino: No need to. It's just a bit agitated that we stopped their fight. You should go check on the chicken over there.
A Man and a Bird of the Same Feather Part 2
Leaving the still rampaging chicken to Shino, I went over to the other chicken. As wobbly as it was, it manages to stand up fiercely.
Akira: C-Come on now, let's relax...
Saying those words, I try to take the chicken in my arms until Bradley comes swooping in, crouching before it.
Bradley: You still have fight left in ya.
Akira: Bradley...
I'm sorry. Even though fighting is just a natural part of life for them, and it's how they can survive...
I really...
Bradley: Adno Potensum.
Akira: Ah...
Bradley's magic heals the battered chicken up, returning it to its unruffled state.
Akira: You healed it! Thanks!
Bradley: There's nothing more humiliating than saving lives outta pity...so much I'd rather die from the shame...
Akira: ...
Bradley: ...but I know that there're others like you who think differently.
He lifts his head up as if he was thinking about someone, and looks far into the sky.
Bradley: What can I say? I decided to go along with your way this time.
'Sides, if I left it all roughed up those shitty gramps would be sure to nag me for it.
Akira: ...Thank you again, Bradley.
Shino: You done?
Akira: Ah, Shino. Your chicken has also calmed down it seems.
Bradley: Haah, bored again...
Sluggish, Bradley loafs around. As he walks, the chicken who he healed follows after him with a chirp in its steps.
Shino: It likes him.
Akira: It likes him indeed...hehe, how cute.
Bradley: You're kiddin' me...a Northern wizard with a chicken following them around has got to be the lamest thing ever...
Looking down at the chicken by his feet, Bradley crouches once again.
Bradley: If you wanna return the favour, lay a silver egg for me, will ya?
He fistbumps the chicken with the same cheer and familiarity friends have for each other.
A Man and a Bird of the Same Feather Part 3
Days later, when we safely settled our mission at the House of Silver Eggs, we all received silver eggs as thanks from the owner.
Akira: I'm glad we got some silver eggs in the end.
Bradley: They put the Great Bradley on guard duty of all things. The reward better be this good.
Shino: You didn't do a great job of guarding though.
Bradley: What, you brat? You jelly that your egg is smaller than mine?
Shino: I'm not. Mine's more shinier anyway.
Bradley: Polish it enough and anything'll be shiny. My egg's specially ordered.
Shino: Specially ordered?
Bradley: I put in quite the effort on guard duty while you weren't looking.
Shino: No clue what you're going on about, but I'm gonna have Nero compliment my egg.
Bradley: Hahaha, he's still a kid alright.
Akira: So Bradley, by specially ordered do you mean...?
Bradley: Yep. It's that chicken's egg.
I told the Owner to gimme the silver egg that the chicken with the reddest comb lays.
Akira: So that's how! That chicken got to properly return the favour to you.
Bradley: It was saved by none other than me, of course a reward is in order.
Somewhere within that grin of Bradley's was joy.
Akira: I look forward to seeing what kind of silver craft comes from your egg!
Bradley: Sage, whaddaya think is gonna hatch from this egg?
Akira: I wonder...maybe something like a ring, because you often wear rings?
Or maybe some cutlery to use when you're eating good food...
Bradley: Hey, this is my egg you're talkin' about. Nothing corny's gonna hatch from here.
Could always be a silver monster, y'know. One where not even a cage or the Magic Manor could handle.
Akira: Huuuh?! That's kinda terrifying...
Bradley: If it ever comes to that I'll deal with it, it's mine after all.
???: Bok bok!
A familiar call could be heard from farther away, and we looked at each other.
Akira: That was...
Bradley: For sure. Maybe they're holding Round 2 of their fight.
Akira: What!? Even though its wounds were healed...
Bradley: That chicken's got more backbone than I took it for. I'm gonna watch a match before we head home.
Akira: Ah, wait! I'm coming too!
As I scramble after him, Bradley turns his head to look at me, appearing to be in a good mood.
Bradley: Don't you break the fight now, "Master" Sage.
CARD EPISODE
The Possibilities of Chickens
Akira: Bradley, great work on the mission the other day.
Bradley: Aah, the House of Silver Eggs request?
Akira: Yes, it was all thanks to everyone's efforts that we safely completed it.
Also, it was the first time I've ever seen a chicken lay a silver egg, I was so surprised! Way different from the chickens I know...
Bradley: Lookie here.
Akira: Oh, the egg! Everytime I see them I can't help but admire its design.
Bradley: Well, it is from a mystical creature. I've always wanted one of those chickens for myself too, shoulda nabbed one.
Akira: N-Nab...? I guess I get where you're coming from. Chickens are fluffy and adorable!
Bradley: Nah, I want one 'cuz they're yummy.
Akira: Ahem.
(That was your idea...!?)
Bradley: It's a waste to turn it into fried chicken though. Those chickens can lay silver eggs AND normal eggs.
As long as you look after it, ya get Grade A silver crafts, and to top it off, an egg to eat every morning. A fry-'em-until-the whites-are-crispy kinda egg.
Akira: Haha, when you think about it like that, it is a wonder chicken.
Bradley: ...
Akira: Bradley?
Bradley: ...Now I'm hungry. I'm heading to the kitchen, there's probably somethin' for me to eat there.
If there ain't, there's plenty ways to fix that.
Akira: Ah, he went there silver egg in hand...
I hope he's not planning on eating it...
